Who we are
Travis Morien (Perth)
Travis has a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Western Australia and has completed the Diploma of Financial Planning.
Travis has been a financial planner since April 2001, when he became an authorised representative of AXA Financial Planning. A year later Travis moved to a small non-aligned financial planning firm, Taylor Financial Planners where he remained until July 2005.
Frustrated by the widespread conflicts of interest in the financial planning profession Travis decided to do something about it which included creating a popular financial planning website and in 2005 he obtained his own Australian Financial Services License through his company Australian Independent Financial Advisers Pty Ltd (originally named Compass Financial Planners Pty Ltd).
Travis is not actively seeking new clients at this time, his main responsibilities are running the company as director, working with other AIFA advisers to develop new strategies and looking after his existing clients.
Matthew Ross (Melbourne)

Matt has fifteen (15) years experience in the financial planning profession, which he has acquired since completing a Commerce degree (majoring in accounting) from the University of Canberra.
Matt has completed the Diploma of Financial Planning (2001), achieved Certified Financial Planner status (2002) and studied the Financial Planning Certificate (UK); a qualification that he obtained during his time spent working overseas. Matt worked in the United Kingdom for 2 years between 2002 and 2003, contracting to a number of multi-national companies as a compliance consultant.
Matt served his apprenticeship as a paraplanner and adviser working for a number of small to medium financial planning firms in Canberra and Melbourne. The first ten years of his career were very frustrating because he didn’t agree with a lot of the advice that was being provided to clients because of the conflicts of interest contained in the advice.
This frustration led him to a point where he would either going to quit a poisoned industry or create his own version of what good advice ought to be. In 2006 Matt started his own financial planning practice (MJRoss Financial) as an authorised representative of Australian Independent Financial Advisers Pty Ltd.
Over the past five years Matt has developed a growing business and has a client base full of intelligent, hard-working people who are fun to work with. Matt and Neil Salkow, operate their financial planning practices’ under the Roskow Independent Advisory brand which is developing a strong reputation in the Melbourne and Brisbane communities. See www.roskow.com.au for more information.
Matt was recently asked to sit on a project panel of experts by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and has been asked to speak before the APESB (Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board) to assist them in developing their standards around financial advice.
Away from the office, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah. He enjoys keeping fit, playing tennis and is an avid Hawthorn Hawks and Melbourne Storm fan.

Daniel Brammall (Canberra)
Daniel Brammall has been a self-employed financial services professional since 1992, obtaining a Proper Authority to act as a Financial Adviser in 1995, and achieving Certified Financial Planner status in 1999. A year later his company, Brammall Financial, was granted a Dealers License by the ASIC, and Principal Membership of the Financial Planning Association.
During his tenure as the sole owner of an Australian Financial Services Licensee, he gained operational experience as a fund manager as well as public company director and adviser. He also structured a number of investments for sophisticated clients.
Early in 2006 Daniel got in touch with Travis Morien, having been a secret lurker on his investment and financial planning website for a number of years. So convinced of Travis’ method and impressed by his approach was he, that in 2007 he handed his AFSL back to the ASIC and joined Compass.
Neil Salkow (Brisbane)
Neil was born and raised in South Africa and after moving to Australia he lived in Melbourne for some time before relocating and making Brisbane his home.
Neil studied a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance, and has worked in financial services for several years. After working for a few financial planning firms and finding the ‘old way’ of doing things too frustrating and conflicted, he started his own financial planning business in 2007.
With a real passion for planning and a genuine interest in helping others, it’s no surprise that Neil’s clients are raving fans of his work. He enjoys working with family orientated people that are passionate about what they do and live a healthy lifestyle. He believes that deep understandings of his clients’ drivers are the key to providing quality advice.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, running, catching up on some reading and travelling abroad with his partner Silvana.
He is currently also studying to be a Certified Financial Planner™.
